Dawn Johnson's Testimony

As long as I can remember, I have always wanted an intimate relationship with God. I’ve always wanted to hear His voice and be useful to Him…so when I was young, I did everything I could think of to try to please Him. By the time I was twelve I was feeling greatly disappointed, because God had not “shown up.”

In June of 1976 my parents took me to a gathering of more than a thousand Christians. From the beginning of the service it was obvious to me that these people had what I was looking for: they knew Jesus personally! I was finally introduced to my Savior.

I passed through a period of trouble and rebellion as a young adult, which Jesus used to deepen my commitment to Him and draw me closer to Himself. During this time, I discovered that my life was much better with Jesus in charge of it. I found peace and liberty through total surrender to the Lord, and began to experience what it meant to enjoy friendship with God.

Fear, insecurity, the imprisonment of life in an abusive relationship, the pain of abortion and post-abortion trauma…I’ve known all these things from personal experience. Thanks to the Lord, today I know the peace and joy that comes from walking out of bondage into freedom in these areas. Not the false freedom that comes from the world, but the true freedom and wholeness found only in Jesus Christ.

I’ve passed through the fire in my marriage, too. My husband and I were tested and tried during an intense desert experience, when Richard lay on the couch in a deep depression, everything he touched fell apart, and we lost all the material possessions that the world holds important.

During this time, our marriage was subjected to pressures that tear many relationships apart. The one thing that kept us together was the covenant we had made with the Lord and each other, when we stood at the altar together on our wedding day and promised, “I do…no matter what.” That one strand was enough: the Lord not only kept us together, but He sustained us, using harsh circumstances to knit us together, strengthen us, and prepare us for our present-day ministry.

Today the Lord uses me, in partnership with my husband, to help people enter into friendship with God and with other people (even enemies), and know the joy of walking in the freedom of a life surrendered to Christ.

Jesusislordus loves you! Jesuslove
